Karmak Licenses VMRS Data from TMC to Standardize Service Intelligence

(Carlinville, IL – March 11, 2025) – Karmak has taken a significant step in service intelligence standardization by licensing official VMRS (Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards) data from the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC). This agreement marks the first step in Karmak’s broader VMRS adoption strategy for the Fusion business system, aiming to bring more consistent, data-driven service intelligence to dealers, fleets, and OEMs.

By gaining access to VMRS coding, Karmak intends to streamline service event classification, reduce inefficiencies in repair workflows, and enhance overall decision-making. Once fully implemented, the broader VMRS strategy is expected to yield expanded features, added benefits, and greater ROI across Karmak’s product and service offerings.

“VMRS has long been the industry standard, providing the framework for consistent and accurate maintenance reporting,” said Jack Poster, VMRS Services Manager at TMC. “Licensing VMRS data shows Karmak’s commitment to aligning with best practices and will help the industry move toward more effective, data-driven operations.”

Why VMRS Matters
  • Improved Data Accuracy
Consistent coding eliminates ambiguity and ensures that service events are reported in a standardized format.

  • Increased Operational Efficiency
With standardized classification, approval workflows and technician productivity are expected to be more streamlined.

  • Foundation for Predictive Analytics
Detailed, uniform service data can help forecast repair and maintenance needs—ultimately lowering downtime and costs.

  • Enhanced Industry Collaboration
Standardized data is key for seamless integration with other industry software such as Decisiv, Truckmore, and crucial OEM platforms.

"Karmak’s deeper integration of VMRS is a significant step forward. For years, commercial fleets have relied on VMRS as the common language for tracking maintenance activities and costs. The need for service providers to deliver actionable insights to fleets is greater than ever. By leveraging VMRS, we help fleets break down costs by specific components and repair actions, empowering them to make data-driven decisions about their equipment,” said Wally Williams, Senior Vice President of Business Processes and Information Technology at W.W. Williams. “Karmak’s commitment to officially embracing VMRS demonstrates their dedication to standardization and operational efficiency across the industry."

Karmak will begin incorporating VMRS data into the Fusion ecosystem, with details on implementation to be announced soon. As part of the implementation, Karmak will offer training materials and best practices to help users maximize the benefits of VMRS, welcoming feedback from early adopters, including dealers, fleets, and OEMs—to ensure a smooth rollout aligned with industry needs.

John Cowan, Vice President of Business Solutions at Karmak emphasized the broader impact of VMRS integration: “Licensing VMRS data is a foundational milestone in our effort to provide customers with robust service intelligence tools and data. Our future goal is to further integrate VMRS into Fusion’s Service and Parts modules, driving better decision-making and improved ROI for those we serve.”
